Environmental Humanities Initiative

The Notre Dame Environmental Humanities Initiative (EHUM) is an interdisciplinary initiative that seeks to foster innovative undergraduate education, scholarly research, creative endeavor, and institutional diversity on critical environmental issues, through a comparative humanities perspective foregrounding questions of ethics and meaning.

We believe there is an intelligibility and coherence to all reality, discoverable through mind, spirit, and imagination, and that we have an obligation to assist the world in creating justice grounded in reverence, while confronting the global crises of climate change, biodiversity collapse, and systemic environmental injustice.

EHUM organizes talks, events, and graduate student workshops, and supports innovative pedagogy and undergraduate learning through interdisciplinary courses such as Witnessing Climate Change.
