Biography
Carolyn Scearce is a librarian and a historian of biology, nineteenth century natural history, and modern marine ecology. Her work integrates questions regarding how archival research can support biodiversity knowledge relating to global changes in habitat and species distributions since the beginning of the age of exploration through the industrial revolution. Her research interests also include the history of health and nutrition.
Carolyn holds a M.A. and Ph.D. in History of Science, Technology, and Medicine and a Masters in Library and Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma, an M.S. in Biological Oceanography from UCSD, and a B.A. in English Literature and B.S. in Biology from the University of Maryland. At Notre Dame she serves as the subject librarian for the Biological Sciences and History and Philosophy of Science.
